Growing rice, the regenerative way; one field at a time

The impact of GoodEarth’s work on the lives of people who live in its spaces is palpable. The name GoodEarth inspired by the American writer and Nobel laureate Pearl S Buck’s best-selling historical fiction The GoodEarth, has been building eco-friendly sustainable homes, institutions and residential communities for over more than three decades.

Even while GoodEarth continues to build residential communities with the goal of inspiring change in the way people live, it is addressing larger issues such as climate change and desertification through regenerative agriculture, sustainable water management and ecological restoration.

While being hopeless and wallowing in climate grief have become the norm, and an easy way out; to be able to act, and work on the land instead, together with people, striving indefatigably to arrive at processes that’s scientific and holistic, is an act of courage.

Having realised that unscientific practise of agriculture was one of the greatest contributors to global warming, GoodEarth took to agriculture. From growing a plethora of vegetables, greens, paddy and sugarcane in small and mid-size farms in Bengaluru, Maddur, Gundlupete in the state of Karnataka, more than 20 native varieties of paddy in Muthunga, Wayanad, transforming an once monocrop rubber plantation into a vibrant food forest Saarang in Kannur the regenerative way and holistic design and management of the farmland spread across 450 acres in Aralam, Kerala, GoodEarth has come full circle.

Today, GoodEarth is encouraging farmers in Malavalli, Mandya district, Karnataka, who have been growing paddy for generations to grow the regenerative way, thereby, reviving the soil; strengthening better cultivation practices, securing good prices from markets and nurturing the region and its people

To take the regenerative package of practices to the farmers and bring more land under the ambit of regenerative agriculture is GoodEarth’s vision.
