Slice of Life

It is a summery but humid evening and my cotton shirt clings slightly as beads of perspiration appear on my forehead. I am almost done for the day, so I switch off my computer screen and walk out into the airy balcony. The diaphanous white curtains seem to be flowing gently and I love how the warm breeze feels against my face

Flora and Fauna at GoodEarth Malhar

Written more than a hundred years ago these words resonate in tune with our Malhar community. They ring true with the spine of its creation. The Flora and Fauna at GoodEarth Malhar are our portal to living in cadence with nature and the planet. They are the birds, bees, squirrels, snakes, beetles, flowers, plants and all the living things that unify us with the environment. Without them, these spaces would be empty.

Wood

There’s more to Wood than being just a sustainable building material Wood finds multiple applications as a building material in GoodEarth projects. Apart from Doors and Windows, wood is used to construct staircases, balconies, floors and a large number of interesting openings with a variety of designs.

Designing Mud Concrete Pathways

Walkways are crucial to any landscape design. The ‘pedestrian lanes’ are both functional and aesthetic. These are the passages that allow you to walk, jog, skate, bike and bask in the cool breezes of the colourful landscaped areas at any time of the year without getting your shoes wet or dirty.

Water Harvesting & Management at GoodEarth Malhar

Bengaluru, the IT capital of the country is today facing an unprecedented “water crisis”. The situation is indicative of water supply parameters that are ‘extremely stressed’ with the rapid decline of the groundwater table, especially in the peripheral areas of the city. These regions are now almost wholly dependent on tankers for their potable and drinking water supply

Drought & floods: Two sides of the same coin

We are witnessing drought in several parts of the country and floods in others. Both lead to immeasurable loss of human and animal lives and the ecosystems. Drought and floods both accentuate water crises and nutrient loss from agriculture land, a threat to our food security and our very existence. We are inching towards a deeper environmental crisis. Flood toll crossing 100 in Bihar, Assam and Meghalaya is a testimony to it.

Native Plants

With burgeoning urbanization, we are in an era of congestion where spaces come at a premium. Most of the elite apartment complexes or gated communities that boast abundant greenery predominantly host an array of exotic plant species and manicured lawns that are ineffectual in enhancing the biodiversity of the region.

Green architecture propagates sustainable living

“It is the need for social security in our lives that prompted a group of us friends to come forth and create — Good Earth — a community guided by the need to live in an environment-friendly and sustainable neighbourhood,” architect Jeeth Iype, one of the founders of Good Earth, told the media.

Let the birds fly in and out

Good Earth Enclave is a sustainable community of 25 units on a three-acre plot in Kengeri. It has been designed and developed by a group of parents and teachers associated with the “Centre for Learning,” a school based on the philosophy of Jiddu Krishnamurthy.Architects Natasha Chawla and Jeeth Iype are part of “Good Earth Estates,” a firm inspired by Laurie Baker.

Innovators Building a Greener World

Bangalore may be India’s high-tech heart, but in one part of its leafy suburbs, there’s a group of environmentalists trying to get back to the garden. In 2003, husband-and-wife architects Jeeth and Natasha Iype, working with Stanley George, a civil engineer, designed the Good Earth Orchard homes. Each of the 60 projected houses, now in various stages of construction, will feature slate and wood left in a natural state, without toxic waxes and finishes.
