Annapoorna: A story of resilience & creative action
Transforming a personal challenge into creative action, Annapoorna Ram Vajjhala, a resident of GoodEarth Orchard, sets on a journey that has impacted the lives of many underprivileged children, over the years.
Growing up with father Suryanarayana Murthy, an Ayurvedic pundit who served all without discrimination, at Elamanchili, a small village in Visakhapatnam, and mother Narasamma whose life revolved around cooking and feeding people, Annapoorna imbibed the values of love, giving and the importance of good deeds at an early age.
Her strength of character is further bolstered by her husband V K Ram who is equally giving and kind. When a personal challenge arises, Annapoorna and her husband take it as a blessing. Sooner, she is led on a path where she volunteers to teach children with special needs. A chance occurrence results in her rescuing a seven-day old abandoned baby girl, whom she fondly names Phalguni, and takes her home. A chain of events since Phalguni’s arrival leads to the starting of a charitable trust.
Within three months of Phalguni’s arrival at home, Annapoorna rescues yet another abandoned baby girl, and names her Vaishaki. With Phalguni and Vaishaki, whom she refers to as the two pillars, begin the story of The Balya Home in 2004, a trust which provides food, shelter, education and care to underprivileged children in Kengeri, Bengaluru.
Watch the journey and work of Annapoorna and be inspired.
